Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. Veins, on the other hand, carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. So, if a structure in the leg of a human is found to carry oxygen-rich red blood cells, it is most likely an artery.
